Who it's for

Teams that have Copilot and aren't sure where the value is.

Your firm already has Microsoft 365 Copilot. People have tried Copilot Chat, had a few good moments and gone back to working the way they did before. This Microsoft 365 Copilot training is for them, whether you run an accountancy practice or another professional services firm.

It's not an introduction to prompting. It assumes people can already ask Copilot a question, and spends the time on the jobs they do every week.

The exercises are your firm's actual workflows, found in Discover or the preparation session, not generic examples.

How it's taught

Copilot training built around your workflows.

Hands-on and follow-along. Each step is shown on screen and everyone does it as they go, on their own machine. Built around your firm's own processes. The exercises use your jobs, not demo material about a company that isn't yours.

  1. Before the session

    We map two or three real workflows for each role

    In the preparation session, James Wilkinson works out with your team which weekly jobs the exercises will use, role by role. If your firm has done Discover, the workflows it mapped feed the course and the preparation session is skipped.

  2. In the session

    Each person runs their own jobs through Copilot, end to end

    On their own machine, in your firm's own Microsoft 365. Each step is shown on screen and everyone does it as they go, so nobody leaves having only watched.

Copilot Chat, Copilot in Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Teams, Notebooks and the built-in agents, each met inside a job your team already does rather than as a tour of features.

Which parts get the most time depends on the workflows mapped for your firm. A team that lives in Excel spends longer there, and a team that lives in its inbox spends longer in Outlook.

Everyone starts here

Make Copilot yours

Custom instructions tell Copilot your role, how you write and what to assume, so every answer and draft follows them. Memory, where Microsoft has switched it on for your firm, keeps the preferences and context you'd otherwise repeat, and you can see and clear what it holds. Then choosing the model for the job where your firm allows it, and voice and Vision for the moments when talking or showing beats typing. The everyday models are in the licence, and some heavier ones draw Copilot Credits where your firm has switched them on, so people learn which is which. Every workflow after this is done with each person's own settings.

Copilot Chat with Work IQ

One chat for work and web. With Work IQ on, Copilot answers from your own email, files, chats and meetings, so a question about a client draws on everything you can already open. People ask across a client's history, draft an email or a document from what's there, open an Outlook email inside the chat and bring in an agent with @.

Outlook

The inbox most people start the day in. Triage what came in overnight, draft replies in your own tone with Copilot coaching the wording, schedule from chat and prepare for the day's meetings.

Word and PowerPoint

A first draft in Word from the references you give it, and a deck in PowerPoint built from a brief, a document, an email or a web source. Both on your firm's own templates, for a document your team really has to produce that week.

Excel

Analysis and formulas in plain language, on a real export from your own systems. The Show Changes pane tracks what Copilot did, so people can check each step before they rely on it. Python in Edit with Copilot is covered where Microsoft has switched it on for your firm.

Teams and Facilitator

In a scheduled Teams meeting, Facilitator keeps live notes, tracks the agenda and the time, answers questions in the meeting chat and, where Microsoft has switched it on for your firm, creates tasks that sync to Planner. Afterwards, the meeting recap and questions about what was said. People learn how to turn it on and who sees the notes.

Notebooks and Pages

One Notebook for each client or project. Gather the files, emails, meetings and links for that piece of work and Copilot answers only from those, then produces summaries, drafts and audio overviews. A chat answer worth keeping becomes a Page, shared and worked on with colleagues.

What sets the course apart

The firm's way, every time

A job that worked becomes a skill in Word or PowerPoint, where Microsoft has switched skills on for your firm: your template, structure and tone, applied each time. Custom instructions and a saved prompt do the same in Chat and Outlook, in every firm. Each person leaves with at least one job from their own role saved this way. It's the same skills idea they'll meet again in Cowork and Copilot Studio.

Full day

Researcher and Analyst

Researcher does multi-step research across your firm's content and the web and produces a report. Analyst analyses the data files you give it. The afternoon puts both to work inside the same workflows, with more time on Notebooks and on any agents your firm already has.

Design

Images and visuals made and edited inside Copilot, including in Teams, for the slide, the proposal or the internal notice that needs one.

Keep what worked

Every exercise ends with the prompt saved to Prompt Gallery and shared to the team, where everyone in it can find it. Your firm's shared set is started in the room, with a named owner. Organisation prompts are covered where Microsoft has switched them on for your firm, and a SharePoint list does the same job for firms that want IT to own it. This is how the habits survive after the session.

Where Copilot stops

The honest list of jobs the licence won't do. Three kinds of job need more than the licence gives you: whole pieces of work done for you (Cowork), routine work done your firm's way every time (a skill) and work that starts on its own when something happens (an agent). People leave knowing which of their own jobs sit where.

Two versions

A half day, or a full day with the afternoon on research and analysis.

Both are hands-on and both use your firm's own workflows. The full day includes everything in the half day, so a firm might run the half day for most teams and the full day for the people whose work is research, analysis or reporting.

The Agent Journey is our map of how a firm gets from the licences it already has to agents running across the business, and a firm can stop at any stage. This course is stage one, Copilot in your workflows.

Stage two, Cowork and skills, is for the jobs where answering isn't enough and someone needs whole pieces of work done. Stage three, Agents you talk to, is where routine questions go to an agent and anyone can build a simple one.

The course never needs Discover first. If your firm has done it, the workflows Discover mapped feed the course and the preparation session is skipped, so you pay the session price only.

Is this a Copilot essentials course?
No. It assumes your team has Copilot licences and can already write a prompt, and it's built on your own workflows. Every exercise is a job from your firm, found in Discover or in the preparation session, not a generic example.
Do we need Discover first?
No. The preparation session maps the workflows the exercises use. If your firm has done Discover, the workflows it mapped feed the course, the preparation session is skipped and you pay the session price only, as with every other session.
Do we need Microsoft 365 Copilot licences?
Yes, for everyone taking part. This course is about what the licence includes, so each person needs one. We check your licences with you in the preparation session.
Does the course use Copilot Credits?
No. Everything the course covers is in the Microsoft 365 Copilot licence, within fair use. The one thing to watch is model choice: some heavier models draw credits where your firm has switched them on, and the course shows people which ones the licence includes. Cowork and agents on the new Copilot Studio experience are where credits start, and that's the next session. Copilot Credits explained: what each Microsoft workload costs
What is Work IQ?
The context layer under Copilot. It covers your email, calendar, files, chats and meetings and your firm's organisational context, with permissions respected, so nobody sees anything they couldn't already open. It decides how deep to go and which model to use for each request. Work IQ inside Copilot is included in the licence.
Can we build a prompt library for the firm?
Yes, in three ways. People save their own prompts in Prompt Gallery in Copilot Chat and share them to a Microsoft 365 team or group, where everyone in it can find them. Where Microsoft has switched on organisation prompts for your firm, an admin can publish a set that appears as pinned suggested prompts. And a SharePoint list, with one row for each prompt holding the role, the job, the prompt and its owner, works in every firm and gives IT or the practice manager something to own. Your firm's shared set is started in the session, with a named owner.
Can Copilot learn how we write?
Yes, person by person. Custom instructions tell Copilot your role, how you write and what to assume, and every answer and draft then follows them. Memory, where Microsoft has switched it on for your firm, keeps the preferences and context you keep repeating, and you can see and clear what it holds. Both are set in Copilot Chat's settings, and everyone sets theirs up at the start of the course.
What is a skill in Word or PowerPoint?
Your firm's way of doing one job, saved so Copilot applies it every time: the template, the structure and the tone. It's the step up from a saved prompt, and the same idea as skills in Cowork and Copilot Studio. Skills in Word and PowerPoint are new, so we check in the preparation session whether Microsoft has switched them on for your firm.
What are Copilot Notebooks?
A workspace for one piece of work. You gather the files, pages, emails, Teams meetings, OneNote notebooks and web links for a client or project, and Copilot answers only from those. It can produce summaries, drafts, audio overviews, mind maps and infographics. Notebooks need a Copilot licence and OneDrive or SharePoint.
What does Facilitator do?
In a scheduled Teams meeting, Facilitator keeps live notes, tracks the agenda and the time, answers questions in the meeting chat and can produce a Word document afterwards. Where Microsoft has switched it on for your firm, it also creates tasks that sync to Planner. It works in scheduled meetings, not channel meetings or instant calls. Someone with a Copilot licence turns it on, when scheduling the meeting or during it, and everyone in the meeting except external guests sees the notes.
Which jobs can't Copilot do on its own?
Three kinds of job need more than the licence gives you: whole pieces of work done for you (Cowork), routine work done your firm's way every time (a skill) and work that starts on its own when something happens (an agent). The course ends with each person sorting their own jobs into those that Copilot now does and those that need one of the three.
What should we do after this course?
Nothing, unless you want to. Some firms stop here, with Copilot doing more of the week's work. If people have jobs where answering isn't enough, the next stage is Copilot Cowork training.
